To celebrate its 150th anniversary, Holland America Line (HAL) has partnered with Seattle-based Pike Brewing to introduce a limited-edition Pilsner beer – HAL Pils – that will be served on board across the entire fleet. The company chose to honor the location of its U.S. headquarters and its position as Seattle’s Hometown Cruise Line with this partnership.
HAL has selected Pilsner as its celebratory beer due to its classic European style and newfound popularity in the craft brewing world. The beer is zesty, bright, and refreshingly hoppy, made with Mosaic Hops from the Yakima Valley in Washington state. This hop provides floral and light melon flavors, big aroma, and a dry finish.
According to Anthony Stice, Vice President of Dining and Beverage Operations for Holland America Line, “A special-edition brew in a beautiful collector’s can is the perfect way to mark our 150th anniversary. There’s no better way to honor our past and celebrate our present than to choose a classic beer style like a Pilsner that’s having a resurgence in the craft beer world. It’s clean, refreshing, and crisp, and our guests are really going to enjoy this exclusive production.”
The commemorative can of HAL Pils is adorned with the iconic Jan van Beers poster of 1898 showing a woman in a nautical-blue dress and striped white hat, mirroring the funnels of the Holland America Line steamship she’s holding above her head. The label has been given a modern twist with the company’s updated logo and color scheme.
Starting in January 2023, HAL Pils will be available in all bars and lounges fleetwide. Six-packs will also be available for purchase in the shipboard shops, making it easy for guests to take home a piece of HAL’s history.
This limited-edition beer is a great way to celebrate Holland America Line’s 150th anniversary. If you’re a fan of classic beer styles with a modern twist, HAL Pils is a must-try. Grab a beer and join the celebration of 150 years of cruising with Holland America Line.
