Holland America Line has just unveiled a wave of exciting new entertainment options for 2024, promising an onboard experience that’s even more captivating and culturally immersive than before.  The line has announced four brand new mainstage productions that redefine the classic cruise show format. These high-energy, concert-style shows feature singers, dancers, and charismatic hosts, leaving you wanting more after every curtain call.

Curtain Up on Four New Mainstage Shows

  • Song & Dance: Take a trip down memory lane with this celebration of musical numbers from Broadway and Hollywood. Set on a dynamic studio backlot, two leading men belt out beloved classics, backed by a talented ensemble.
  • Class Act: Get ready for a Las Vegas-style spectacle that pays homage to legendary female performers. This production features stunning costumes, dazzling choreography, and iconic hits that will have you tapping your toes and singing along.
  • All That!: Rewind to the golden age of television with this interactive show inspired by classic variety shows of the 60s, 70s, and 80s. Be part of the studio audience and experience a whirlwind of singing, dancing, and comedy routines.
  • Hey Mr. DJ!: Calling all party people! This high-octane concert features iconic radio DJs spinning pop hits from the 60s all the way up to today’s hottest tracks. Get ready to dance the night away and relive your favorite musical eras.

These new productions have debuted on Eurodam in February 2024. By the end of June, Rotterdam, Zuiderdam, and Nieuw Statendam will also be treating audiences with these innovative shows. The rollout will continue throughout the year, ensuring all Holland America Line ships offer this exciting new entertainment experience.

During my 11-Day Eastern Caribbean Cruise on Eurodam in March 2024, I was one of the first to experience one of these new shows, All That!.  As noted in my Day 9 daily report, “While the female singer impressed with her voice and well-matched song choices, the male singers struggled with their assigned pieces, resulting in some off-key moments. The choreography, like the singing, was decent but didn’t leave a lasting impression.”

Beyond the Mainstage: A World of Cultural Delights

But the entertainment doesn’t stop there! Holland America Line understands that cultural immersion is a key part of the cruise experience. To complement the new mainstage shows, the cruise line is introducing unique regional productions that showcase the local flavor of your chosen destination.

  • Caribbean: Immerse yourself in the sounds of the Caribbean with Island Magic, a one-of-a-kind orchestral steel drum concert experience. This versatile group performs a captivating repertoire ranging from traditional island tunes to unique renditions of classical and pop favorites.
  • Canada & New England: Get ready to jig to the lively Celtic rhythms of Breton Thunder, a new show celebrating the rich musical heritage of Nova Scotia. This authentic experience highlights the region’s European roots through captivating music and dance.
  • Europe: Cruise the majestic European waterways while enjoying the elegance of classical music. The Chordial Chamber Trio will serenade you with their exquisite string performances, while Pantheon, a dynamic group of European tenors, will leave you breathless with their powerful vocals.

Alaska cruises continue to offer a captivating selection of entertainment options. The dance troupe, Step One Dance Company, will mesmerize you with their innovative choreography and artistic video projections, creating a truly immersive experience.

Major Fourth, a talented vocal quartet known for their impactful harmonies, will take you on a musical journey through various genres and decades. And to fuel your excitement for the Alaskan landscape, a new program called Destination: Alaska will introduce you to the incredible shore excursions available, ensuring you make the most of your adventure.

Music Venues Aplenty: From Rolling Stone to Billboard

For music lovers, there’s something for everyone onboard Holland America Line ships. The Rolling Stone Lounge, a popular venue featuring a seven-piece band playing a mix of rock, pop, and R&B, is expanding its reach to even more ships.

Billboard Onboard gets a fresh makeover, transforming into a reimagined piano bar concept. Each evening will feature a different musical theme inspired by Billboard’s chart-topping hits, keeping the tunes lively and diverse.

And of course, the legendary B.B. King’s Blues Club remains the heart and soul of the music scene on Koningsdam, Nieuw Statendam, and Rotterdam.
