Come along with me for a walk around Scarborough, Tobago, filmed during our port stop on Holland America’s Rotterdam. We’ll leave the port, wander through the streets of town past the vendors and fast food spots, check out the shopping area near the pier, and finish at a beach close to the ship.

Key Takeaways
- Rotterdam was the only ship in port, and there’s not a lot right by the pier. In my opinion, this is a port where you really want to book an excursion.
- Church’s Texas Chicken is right across the street from the port, and you’ll also find KFC, Subway, Royal Castle and Gyro King in town.
- There’s a colorful walkway out of the port lined with vendors, and everybody stops to get a selfie with the ship.
- Street vendors sell fruit, food and knockoff bags, and plenty of people will greet you with a friendly welcome to Tobago.
- Expect razor wire around the port, lots of mannequins in the shop windows, and chickens wandering the streets, baby chickens included.
- Carib is the local beer, and it’s not a bad beer.
- There’s a somewhat nice shopping area near the cruise port, plus an I Love Tobago sign for a photo on the way back.
- A short walk from the port, past the Milford Road esplanade, there’s a clean, beautiful little beach with a view of the ship.
Good to Know
It was really hot when I walked around, think Orlando in the middle of summer. There was a nice breeze down by the water, but bring water and take it slow.
Be careful crossing the streets. Remember which side of the road they drive on, check every direction, and watch your step, because the curbs aren’t made for anyone with mobility issues.
The last time I was here, I could walk right down to the water at the beach. This time there was a fence and rocks in the way, so things do change from visit to visit.
