Come along with me for a walk around Deck 2 on Cunard’s Queen Elizabeth. We’ll start in the casino, pop into the Golden Lion Pub, stroll through the Queens Room and the shops, then climb the spiral staircase in the library before finishing up at the Britannia Restaurant.

Key Takeaways

  • The casino on Deck 2 is small: a wall of slot machines, about four tables and roulette, and it never really got busy during my cruise.
  • The Golden Lion Pub is right across from the casino. You can grab a pint of Guinness, have fish and chips, the ploughman’s platter or a burger, and catch a game on the TVs or some live entertainment.
  • The Queens Room is where you’ll find ballroom dancing, dance lessons and afternoon tea, with servers in white gloves bringing around tea and finger sandwiches. It’s also where they held the Cunard World Club reception for loyalty members.
  • The Cunard shop sells logo merch, ship models, jackets and shirts, and even Cunard’s own gin, plus there are display cases full of QE2 memorabilia.
  • The two story library has the largest selection of books at sea, a spiral staircase, and computers upstairs if you need to check your email.
  • The Steakhouse at The Verandah is just off the library. It’s $65 per person, open for dinner and some days for lunch.
  • Cafe Carinthia is a nice size cafe for your morning coffee and pastries, and it’s a full bar too.
  • Britannia Club guests have their own dining room on this deck, and the lower level of the Britannia Restaurant is here as well.

Good to Know

If you’re a gambler, keep your expectations in check. The casino on Queen Elizabeth is diminutive to say the least, but since it never got crowded, you could always find a machine to play.

Pay attention to where you’re eating dinner in the Britannia Restaurant. The Deck 2 level is for anytime dining, or open seating, and the Deck 3 level upstairs is for those with traditional early or late seating.

A lot of ships have pulled out their libraries and put in shops to make money, but not here. The library on Queen Elizabeth is fully stocked, and it would rival your hometown library. Even if you’re not a reader, it’s worth walking through just to see it and that staircase.
