Excitement and anticipation filled the air as Celebrity Cruises’ latest and most luxurious ship, the Celebrity BeyondSM, set sail from Fort Lauderdale. The ship’s inaugural Caribbean season kicked off with its official naming ceremony, led by its Godmother and female powerhouse Simone Biles, the most decorated American gymnast in history.
The ship, helmed by the first woman to be named captain of a “Mega” cruise ship, Captain Kate McCue, ushers in a new era of cruising for the industry. Celebrity Beyond was named by Simone Biles, following in the footsteps of Girls Who Code’s Reshma Saujani and Nobel Peace Prize Laureate Malala Yousafzai, who inaugurated Celebrity Apex and Celebrity Edge, respectively.
