Holland America just announced that Zuiderdam is the next ship getting the Evolution treatment, and honestly, after sailing on her in December 2025, I can say the ship could use a little love – while still well maintained, she was starting to look a little tired in spots so this refresh is perfect timing.

If you’ve been following the Holland America Evolution program, you already know this isn’t just a coat of paint and some new furniture. We’re talking about major changes that’ll give guests more options and better accommodations across the board.

What’s Coming to Zuiderdam

The Zuiderdam will see some serious stateroom additions and updates when the drydock wraps up. You’re getting two brand-new Bridgeview Suites (those forward-facing bridge suites with wraparound windows are going to be a huge hit), 14 Vista Suites, 32 Solo Verandah staterooms, and a reimagined Pinnacle Suite.

The Bridgeview Suites are particularly cool – they’re positioned above the bridge with sweeping forward views and private balconies.  And the Solo Verandahs? A very welcome addition for solo travelers like myself.

Beyond the staterooms, Zuiderdam’s getting the Grand Dutch Café, which is hugely popular on the Pinnacle Class ships. It’s a casual, all-day hangout spot inspired by Amsterdam cafes – think morning espresso, afternoon beer, and evening light bites. The version coming to Zuiderdam will actually be the largest one they’ve introduced so far as part of Evolution.

Holland America’s president Beth Bodensteiner mentioned in the announcement that they’ve already seen strong interest in the Bridgeview Suites and Solo Verandahs on Oosterdam, which shouldn’t come as much of a shock.

If you want to dive deeper into what these transformations look like, check out the detailed breakdown of Oosterdam’s deck plan changes – that’ll give you a solid sense of what Holland America’s actually doing with these ships. And if you want to see what Zuiderdam looks like before the Evolution update, I’ve got a full review series from my December 2025 sailing that shows the ship as she currently is.

Booking Timeline

Zuiderdam’s post-Evolution voyages open for booking on July 30, 2026, so if you’re interested in getting in early, that’s your window. Oosterdam’s already taking bookings for its first post-drydock sailings since it’s the flagship of the Evolution program.

Zuiderdam’s just the second ship in the lineup, and with six total ships in the Evolution program, there’s a lot more to come.
