Royal Caribbean has been known to push the limits when it comes to entertainment offerings on its cruise ships.  With their signature Flow Rider, passengers can surf from the top deck high above the ocean below, or skydive in the iFly simulator on their Quantum-class cruise ships.

When Independence of the Seas emerged from a multi-million-dollar makeover this week, the limits were pushed even further with the introduction of the Sky Pad.  This virtual reality bungee trampoline experience is the first of its kind at sea.

The Sky Pad holds four bungee trampolines and offers four unique virtual reality experiences.  Riders strap in, put on their VR headsets and get transported to another time, place or planet.  Experiences range from smashing candies in a sugar-coated world, or traveling light years into the future, this out-of-this-world adventure is sure to be a hit with kids from 7 to 100!

Riders must be 5 years old to jump and 7 years old to jump wearing a VR headset.

The installation of Sky Pad on Royal Caribbean’s Independence of the Seas took over 8,100 man hours to complete.  The 9-ton structure is made of marine-grade aluminum and sits high atop the aft of the ship.
