Come along with me for a walk around Mahogany Bay in Roatan, Honduras, Carnival’s own cruise port, filmed while Carnival Celebration was in port. We’ll start in the shopping area right off the pier, check out the local craft market, then head over to the beach to see the chairs, clamshells and places to eat.

Key Takeaways
- Mahogany Bay is owned and developed by Carnival for Carnival ships, a lot like Amber Cove, and the beach is free to hang out on.
- You walk through the duty free right off the ship, and then it’s a very short walk to the shopping area where shore excursions meet.
- Along with the usual shops like Diamonds International and Del Sol, there’s a local merchant marketplace, a craft market with individual stalls, a woman rolling cigars and a Harley Davidson shop.
- To get to the beach you can walk a nice pathway or ride the cable car. It’s a couple of bucks round trip, and you pay once and ride it all day.
- Depending on how quickly you walk, it’s about a 10 minute walk from the ship to the beach.
- The yellow beach chairs are free to use, and you can rent a clamshell, beach gear or a private cabana.
- Food and drinks aren’t included: you pay for what you have at spots like Hurricane Hole and the Lobster House.
- There’s also volleyball, a massage hut and one more restaurant at the far end of the beach.
Good to Know
Usually there’s only one ship in port, so the beach doesn’t get too crowded. Even on my visit there were still plenty of empty chairs.
If you want shade, keep walking. People don’t usually venture all the way down, but the far end is nicely shaded by palm trees and close to the food and the Lobster House.
It rained the morning I visited, so there were lots of puddles on the walk. I had sneakers on and didn’t do a good job of keeping my feet dry, so sandals might be the smarter choice.
