Come along with me up on deck on Holland America’s Nieuw Amsterdam on one of the windiest days of our 7 day Western Caribbean cruise in December 2010. The wind hit force 7, and you can hear it howling so loud it’s hard to hear me talk.

Key Takeaways
- This was a Tuesday sea day, and the wind was really howling up top.
- Wind speeds hit force 7 on the Beaufort Scale, which is called a moderate gale.
- We didn’t have big waves, but we could feel the ship swaying back and forth as the gusts picked up.
- You can’t really tell how much the ship is moving from up on deck, but you feel it in your bathroom.
- The ship’s stabilizers did a good job, and no events were canceled.
Good to Know
A windy sea day doesn’t have to ruin your cruise. Even with a force 7 wind, everybody carried on with the day as normal and nothing on the schedule got canceled.
If you’re sensitive to motion, keep in mind you’ll often notice it more in some spots than others. For me, it was the bathroom in our cabin where I really felt the ship moving.
Turn your sound up for this one. The wind is a big part of the video, and it gives you a real idea of how windy things were out there.
