More ships are making their way into the MSC Cruises fleet and they’re big!
Today the company announced they will build two new ships that will hold 6,300 passengers when booked to full capacity, around the same number Royal Caribbean’s Oasis-class cruise ships carry.
The Meraviglia Plus-class ships are based off the soon to be launched MSC Meraviglia which is to hold 4,500 passengers. These new ships will feature 200 additional staterooms, for a total of 2,444, and will be 1,085 feet in length, a tad smaller than MSC Divina which sails year-round from Miami. The extra space comes from building the ships with greater width.

Despite their size, MSC CEO Gianni Onorato told Cruise Critic, the ships will be able to fit into any port around the world. So where will they be deployed? In the same interview, Onorato said the could be in northern Europe, South America, the Caribbean, the Mediterranean, or China.
With the scheduled for delivery in 2019 and 2020, we will just have to wait a tad bit longer to see if one of these makes their way into North America.
Few details have emerged about what to expect onboard these new floating cities, but it has been announced that they will each have the first fine art museum at sea as well as additional restaurants and a Cirque du Soleil show.
