Cunard Line’s Queen Victoria just emerged from 30 days in dry dock getting a $40 million makeover. She went in having a passenger capacity of 1,988 and came out being able to accommodate 2,081 thanks to the addition of 30 staterooms and five Penthouse Suites.
In the time-lapse video below, you can see the structure being lifted and welded onto the aft of the ship. Not only did this structure add additional passenger capacity, it also allowed the line to expand the Lido Deck on deck 9 adding additional space for loungers past the ship’s pool and hot tubs.
Notably, this addition altered the lines of the ship as you can see in the before and after pictures.
The additional rooms were added on decks 6, 7, and 8 as detailed in the deck plans from before and after the refit. These rooms include five new Penthouse suites on Deck 8 that have separate living and sleeping quarters. The four Cunard Grand Suites (The Aquitania Suite, The Berengaria Suite, The Mauretania Suite and The Laconia Suite) on decks 6 and 7 were refurbished and now contain seven separate rooms and clock in at 1,436 square feet.
The former Chart Room is now the Britannia Club restaurant, while the Chart Room took over the space on deck 2 that used to be home to Café Carinthia and the Champagne Bar. This newly reconfigured space now serves as a café during the day and a lounge at night.
Britannia Club staterooms on decks 7 and 8 were refreshed with new carpeting, soft goods, flat screen TV’s and in-room coffee/tea makers.
