Cruise lines have been changing up a lot lately.
New ships. New private destinations. New restaurants. New fees they hope you don’t notice.
But this time, let’s talk about something more fun.
Booze.
Specifically, bourbon and whiskey. Holland America and Carnival are both introducing some new beverage options, and while the two announcements are a bit different, they both point to the same thing: cruise lines know guests want more than the same old basic bar menu.
Don’t get me wrong. There’s always a time and place for a frozen drink in a souvenir cup. But sometimes you want something a little more interesting. Something you can sip slowly while pretending you understand tasting notes beyond “yep, that burns.”
Holland America is going all-in on rare single barrel whiskey experiences onboard. Carnival is going the fun, patriotic, buy-it-on-the-ship-and-brag-about-it-at-home route with a limited-edition Bulleit Bourbon for America’s 250th anniversary.
Holland America Is Pouring the Good Stuff
Holland America Line is expanding its Single Barrel Series for 2026, and this one makes me the most excited. On the last few HAL cruises, the selection of high-end spirits has been disappointing, so I’m definitely looking forward to these new additions when I’m back on different Holland America ships this fall.
HAL’s 2026 collection includes 13 single barrel selections from some pretty serious bourbon and rye producers. These pours will be available in the always popular Ocean Bar across the Holland America fleet.
The beverage team worked directly with distilleries to secure single barrels that are usually hard for regular consumers to get their hands on. Many of these bottles typically go to retailers, collectors, or specialty bars.
What’s in the Holland America Whiskey Lineup?
The 2026 Holland America Single Barrel Series includes some names bourbon fans will definitely recognize.
The lineup features:
- Weller Full Proof Single Barrel Bourbon
- Blanton’s Private Barrel Bourbon
- Elijah Craig Single Barrel Bourbon
- Kentucky Peerless Single Barrel Bourbon
- 1792 Bottled in Bond Single Barrel Bourbon
- Uncle Nearest 1884 Single Barrel Bourbon
- Woodford Reserve Single Barrel Bourbon
- Knob Creek Single Barrel Bourbon
- …and more
There are also rye options, including:
- WhistlePig 10-Year Single Barrel Rye
- WhistlePig 12-Year Single Barrel Maple Brûlée Rye
- Knob Creek Single Barrel Rye.
Angel’s Envy also shows up twice with two port barrel-finished single barrel bourbons.
These additions give guests something to explore beyond the Jack Daniels and Jim Beam, and makes a pre-dinner cocktail feel more like an experience.
Also, let’s be honest. Being able to order a pour of Blanton’s Private Barrel sounds a lot more relaxing than trying to find a bottle at home with a ridiculous markup.
Let’s not forget, Holland America is also aging bourbon at sea with its partnership with Jefferson’s Bourbon. All 11 ships in the fleet have barrels are aging aboard. As the ships move, the bourbon inside the barrels is influenced by the motion of the ocean, changing temperatures, and conditions at sea.
Once the barrels are ready, they will be offloaded, bottled, and returned to the fleet. Guests are expected to be able to enjoy the ocean-aged bourbon onboard beginning in 2027.
Carnival Says: Forget the Bar, Put It in the Gift Shop
Carnival is bypassing the bar and taking their bourbon directly to the gift shop where they hope you take home a bottle along with those cases of Hennessy White that seem to sell like hot dogs on the 4th of July.
The cruise line is partnering with with Starboard (who runs their onboard retail shops) and Diageo (the massive spirits company) to offer a limited-edition Bulleit Bourbon Single Barrel Frontier Whiskey celebrating America’s 250th anniversary. The 750ml bottle will be available exclusively in retail stores on 14 Carnival ships this summer for $59.99, which is priced about right.
Which Carnival Ships Are Getting the Limited-Edition Bulleit Bourbon?
Carnival says the limited-edition Bulleit Bourbon will be available in retail stores on 14 ships:
- Carnival Celebration
- Carnival Dream
- Carnival Firenze
- Carnival Freedom
- Carnival Horizon
- Carnival Jubilee
- Carnival Legend
- Carnival Magic
- Carnival Miracle
- Carnival Panorama
- Carnival Pride
- Carnival Sunrise
- Carnival Sunshine
- Carnival Venezia

The Bigger Trend: Cruise Drinks Are Becoming Experiences
This is part of a bigger shift happening across cruising. Cruise lines are using restaurants, cocktail menus, chef partnerships, wine programs, and now bourbon selections to make their ships feel more memorable.
For whiskey fans, Holland America’s Single Barrel Series could be a genuine reason to spend more time at the Ocean Bar. Like we really need a reason to, anyway!
For Carnival guests sailing during the America 250 celebration, the limited-edition Bulleit Bourbon adds a fun take-home piece of the trip that is more interesting than another magnet.
And for everyone else, it is a reminder to actually look at the bar menus and onboard shops. Sometimes the good stuff is hiding in plain sight.
