In celebration of World Space Week, Carnival Cruise Line has announced an exciting partnership with Kennedy Space Center Visitor Complex. This collaboration aims to launch a children’s space program that is inspired by NASA science and designed to be both educational and fun. The program, called “Space Cruisers,” will debut on Carnival Celebration this November as part of Camp Ocean’s science and discovery programming.
The Space Cruisers curriculum is supported by NASA and offers a range of hands-on and unique learning experiences for children of all ages to explore the universe and our planet. Children can complete various missions, or activities, to earn a special mission patch representative of the program.
Some of the exciting activities offered in the Space Cruisers program include:
- Optimal Orbit (ages 2-8): Children can learn about the pull of gravity and how objects move through space in a hands-on experience with a giant trampoline.
- Design Your Own Mission Patch (ages 6-11): Kids can join the long-standing tradition of astronauts and design their own take-home mission patch.
- Space Cruisers Rocket Workshop (ages 6-11): Children can follow in the footsteps of NASA engineers and build their own paper rocket to launch into the sky.
- Mars Base Connect (family-friendly): Explore the steps to building a Mars base and come together with family members to create your own.
- ASTRO! (family-friendly): Call out constellations in a space-themed BINGO game for the chance to win special giveaways.
“Space Cruisers will take our offerings to the next level with the perfect balance of fun and education,” says Melissa Mahaffey, Director of Youth Experience for Carnival Cruise Line. “Kids will have the chance to discover many of the awesome aspects of space through fun activities and take away unique learnings.”
An area of Camp Ocean will feature an illuminated space wall showcasing the planets, as well as a display of light-up constellations on the ceiling. This space-themed area will add a fun and exciting dimension to the learning experience.
The program will debut on Carnival Celebration when it sets sail from Miami in November and will be rolled out to the Space Coast with Mardi Gras in Port Canaveral in time for the holiday season. In time for spring break, various activities from the program will be available fleetwide.
Carnival Celebration will be the second Carnival ship to feature an award-winning roller coaster and will set sail from the newly redesigned Terminal F at PortMiami. The terminal will be shore-power ready in 2023 and is the line’s largest terminal in South Florida.
