Alaska coverage is coming to Scott’s Cruises, and honestly, it’s about time we traded all that amazing Caribbean sunshine for glaciers, fjords, bald eagles, and weather that may require more than just a pair of shorts and flip flops.
Contributor and frequent Disney Cruise Line cruiser Jason, along with his family, is currently en route from Orlando to Vancouver, British Columbia, where they’ll spend the night before boarding the Disney Magic at Canada Place. Yes, they’re doing it the smart way: flying in a day early instead of tempting the travel gods with same-day flights, weather delays, lost luggage, and the always-fun possibility of watching your ship sail away without you.
Their 7-night Alaskan adventure begins tomorrow from Vancouver, and Jason will be sharing daily updates, photos, and highlights as the Disney Magic heads north for one of the most scenic itineraries Disney Cruise Line offers.

And let’s just say they picked a pretty fantastic room for this one.
Jason and his family will be staying in a Concierge 1-Bedroom Suite with Verandah, which is exactly the kind of stateroom you want when your cruise involves glaciers, mountains, waterfalls, whales, and all the scenery that Alaska is famous for. On a Caribbean cruise, a verandah is nice. On an Alaska cruise, it can become your own private front-row seat to all that nature offers.
Disney Magic’s 7-night Alaska itinerary sails roundtrip from Vancouver and includes scenic glacier viewing, Skagway, Icy Strait Point, and Ketchikan, with sea days at the beginning and end of the cruise.

Starting in Vancouver
The adventure begins in Vancouver, where Disney Cruise Line uses the Canada Place Cruise Terminal, located right in the heart of downtown Vancouver. Canada Place is also extremely convenient for cruisers flying in, with the terminal located roughly 12 miles from Vancouver International Airport. For Jason and his family, coming in the day before means they can settle in, get a good night’s sleep, and wake up already close to the ship.
Scenic Glacier Viewing
One of the biggest highlights of this itinerary is the glacier viewing day. The Disney Magic’s Alaska route includes scenic viewing at Dawes Glacier, which is one of those days where the ship itself becomes the excursion.
This is the day where that balcony pays off. Alaska cruising is not just about the ports. Some of the most memorable moments happen while the ship slowly sails through narrow waterways surrounded by mountains, ice, waterfalls, and wildlife.

Skagway
Skagway is one of Alaska’s most famous cruise ports, and it has a history perfect for people who love old-timey saloons, gold rush stories, and mountain scenery that looks fake because it’s too perfect.
This former Klondike Gold Rush town leans heavily into its frontier past, with historic buildings, wooden boardwalks, and excursions that often focus on the region’s mining history and landscape. Many cruisers use Skagway as a jumping-off point for scenic rail tours, mountain drives, hiking, and adventures into the surrounding wilderness.

Icy Strait Point
Icy Strait Point is a very different kind of Alaska stop, and that’s part of what makes it interesting as it’s completely nature-focused.
This port is known for wildlife, whale watching, trails, and incredible views. It’s also one of those places where you are reminded very quickly that Alaska is all about the scenery. You’re not going to find a Señor Frog’s here.
For families, this can be a great port because there are options ranging from relaxed sightseeing to more active excursions. And for anyone hoping to see whales, bears, or eagles, this is one of the stops where you keep your camera ready.

Ketchikan
Ketchikan is another classic Alaska cruise port and is often known for its waterfront, culture, fishing history, and rain. Lots of rain.
The town is famous for Creek Street, its boardwalk area built over the water, along with totem poles, salmon, local shops, and excursions that explore the surrounding rainforest and waterways. It’s also a port where just walking around can be a great way to spend the day, especially if you enjoy small-town Alaska charm with a side of rain.

Follow Along Daily
Jason will be sharing updates throughout the cruise, with daily looks at their Alaskan adventure. Expect plenty of photos, port updates, scenery, food, stateroom coverage, and probably at least one mention of Jason having to buy clothes consisting of long sleeve shirts, pants, and jackets.
