This is Royal Caribbean’s Making an Icon episode on Thrill Island, which I shared in March 2023 before Icon of the Seas debuted. The designers walk through the neighborhood’s lost island theme, the Category 6 waterpark, the Crown’s Edge course hanging over the ocean and the new spots to eat and drink.
Icon of the Seas Thrill Island Preview
Icon of the Seas Thrill Island preview from Royal Caribbean: Category 6 waterpark, Crown's Edge, Adrenaline Peak, Lost Dunes mini golf and Basecamp.
Key Takeaways
- Thrill Island is one of eight neighborhoods on Icon, and Royal Caribbean calls it its maxed out version of thrill on a ship.
- The theme is a shipwrecked lost island, with distressed wood, a sunken boat and artifacts from explorers like Magellan, the Wright brothers and Amelia Earhart.
- Category 6 is billed as the largest waterpark at sea, with six record breaking slides spread across two towers.
- The slides include family raft slides for four people, Pressure Drop where you push yourself off the edge, dueling mat racers and Frightening Bolt, the tallest water slide at sea, where the floor drops out from under you.
- Crown’s Edge is an adventure course 154 feet above the ocean. You suit up in a helmet, jumpsuit and harness, the floor drops away and you glide back to where you started.
- Adrenaline Peak is the rock climbing wall, with five lanes and a buzzer at the top of each so you can race.
- Lost Dunes is the themed mini golf course, and the FlowRider is back too.
- Basecamp has burgers and handheld sandwiches with both complimentary and for pay options, and Desserted is a milkshake bar with boozy milkshakes for adults.
Good to Know
Just so you know, this is Royal Caribbean’s preview video, not something I filmed on board. It was made while the ship was still being built, so you’re seeing designers, renderings and construction rather than people riding the slides.
Royal Caribbean designed Thrill Island with multigenerational families in mind. Grandma and Grandpa may not want to ride the tallest water slide at sea, but there are plenty of spots to sit back and watch the action.
Every neighborhood on Icon is meant to be a place you can spend the whole day, so having Basecamp and Desserted right there means you don’t have to leave Thrill Island to grab a bite or a drink.
