Ahoy, Disney fans and cruise enthusiasts! The Disney Treasure is making waves, quite literally, as it takes to the water for the very first time. September 18, 2024, marks the day when Disney’s newest vessel left the Meyer Werft shipyard, gliding gracefully down the Ems River, cheered on by spectators who lined the riverbanks to catch a glimpse of the latest addition to the Disney Cruise Line fleet.

In the early morning hours, the Disney Treasure, guided by tugboats, made her conveyance down the Ems River. It was a spectacle for all who watched from the riverbanks, a celebration as the ship, fresh from construction at Meyer Werft, began her voyage to open waters for the first time. Imagine seeing this 2,500-passenger behemoth glide down the river with spectators waving and cheering like it’s a parade! That’s the kind of energy you’d expect for a Disney ship.

But it wasn’t just fanfare—this was a critical moment for the Disney Treasure as it headed toward Eemshaven, Netherlands, for its sea trials, where it will undergo a series of tests to ensure it’s fully shipshape and ready to deliver that Disney magic to guests from around the world.

The Journey Begins: What Are Sea Trials, Anyway?

Now that she’s reached Eemshaven, the real fun begins! For the next few days, the Disney Treasure will be put through a rigorous series of sea trials. These tests are designed to make sure the ship can handle anything the ocean throws her way. From testing the engines and propulsion systems to checking out navigation equipment and safety protocols, nothing will be left to chance.

And, of course, overseeing these trials is none other than Captain Marco, who’s making sure the Disney Treasure is more than ready to sail the open seas. This process is crucial because it ensures that every aspect of the ship is ready for the adventure of a lifetime. So, while the crew is hard at work, Captain Marco’s got his eyes on the prize, ensuring the Treasure will be ready for her upcoming transatlantic voyage.

A Sister Ship to the Disney Wish

For those of you who’ve sailed aboard the Disney Wish, you’ll be pleased to know that the Disney Treasure is her sister ship. Both are part of Disney Cruise Line’s rapidly growing fleet and are powered by liquefied natural gas (LNG), making them more environmentally friendly than their predecessors. But while the Wish brought her own unique magic to the seas, the Treasure promises to take it up a notch. After all, Disney doesn’t do anything halfway, right?

Once sea trials are complete and the Disney Treasure gets her official seal of approval, the real adventure begins! This “treasure” will set sail on her maiden voyage from Port Canaveral in December 2024, kicking off what’s sure to be an unforgettable inaugural season. Guests will embark on week-long itineraries to the Eastern and Western Caribbean, with stops at some of the most breathtaking destinations.

The maiden voyage on December 21, 2024, will take guests to Tortola, St. Thomas, and Disney’s private island paradise, Castaway Cay. And if you’re lucky enough to snag a spot on the New Year’s Eve cruise, you’ll be ringing in 2025 in style as the Disney Treasure sails through the Western Caribbean, visiting Mexico, Grand Cayman, Jamaica, and the Bahamas.

Year-round, this ship will continue to offer sailings from Port Canaveral, making it the perfect escape for families, Disney fans, and anyone who loves a little (or a lot of) magic on their vacations.
