Holland America Line’s newest Pinnacle-class cruise ship, set to be delivered in May 2021, is being given a name that has deep roots in the line’s history. The new 2,666 passenger ship will be the fourth to bear the name Ryndam, with the first sailing from 1901 – 1923.
As the third Pinnacle-class ship, Ryndam will carry over many of the popular features found in her sisters, Koningsdam and Nieuw Statendam, as well as what the line is calling “enhanced Pinnacle class amenities and innovations.”
“Holland America Line honors the timeless tradition of cruising while also embracing new innovations for today’s travelers, and the name Ryndam reflects the unique history of this company while honoring previous ships that were progressive in their time as this last Ryndam will be,” said Orland Ashford, Holland America Line’s president. “From the first Ryndam more than 100 years ago to the most recent, the namesake ships have been beloved by our guests. The next Ryndam will bring new life to one of the most notable series of vessels in our history.”
While many may not recall the first Ryndam, some may recall the second which sailed from 1951 to 1973 and the third which most recently sailed from 1993 to 2015. Upon its retirement, the last Ryndam was transferred to sister-brand P & O Australia and currently sails under the name Pacific Aria.
Information on where the next Ryndam will homeport and what her itineraries will be have not been announced.
