In an earlier post, I shared photos of my friend Steve and Angelo’s cruise on the MS Marina from Oceania Cruises. As I mentioned, one of the highlights of their journey was a port call in Cuba. Oceania, and other cruise lines, recently began sailing into this island nation after the United States and Cuba worked together to make it easier for Americans to visit, something that hasn’t been easy to do since the 1960’s.
Part of the allure of cruising to Cuba is the trip back in time one takes the moment you pull into port. It’s a land that time forgot and a car buff’s dream. Steve and Angelo took plenty of photos of their time exploring Havana and were gracious enough to allow me to share them with my readers. So let’s go!
Here is a view of the Terminal Sierra Maestra, Port of Havana, Cuba. Not exactly modern by today’s standards, but considering it dates back to 1914, it’s a piece of the country’s history. It’s this port that the Marina made her maiden call to on March 9, 2017.
One of the first things you see when pulling into the harbor is Morro Castle, the fortress that has stood guard in Havana Bay since 1589.
Now let’s talk about those cars. I’m sure you’ve seen videos and photos of them for years and thought to yourself, “they don’t really drive around in them!” Yes, they do, and like I said earlier, Cuba is a haven for car buffs. Just take a look at some of these beauties:
These classics are the pride and joy of their owners and I know several people who would die to get their hands on some of them to bring back to the United States and restore.
Cuba may not be a modern city, but it does have charm in the form of historic buildings, artwork, narrow streets and colorful facades. One can’t look at these photos without wanting to plan a visit.
Well, that’s it. I hope you enjoyed this little tour around Havana, Cuba courtesy of Steve and Angelo. Thanks again guys for allowing me to share your adventure with my readers and I hope you had a wonderful cruise aboard Oceania Cruises MS Marina.
