Celebrity Cruises has announced today that Simone Biles, a 19-time World Champion and seven-time Olympic Medalist, will add another title to her already illustrious career. Biles will be the godmother for Celebrity Beyond, the highly anticipated ship of the year that recently debuted in Europe.
The role of a Godmother is a long-standing and highly regarded tradition for new ships. The Godmother inspires guests and crew who sail on the ship and holds the lifetime title and honor. Biles will name Celebrity Beyond, the gold standard ship and the newest and most luxurious vessel in the Celebrity fleet, at the official ceremony in Fort Lauderdale on November 4, 2022.
For its Edge Series ships, Celebrity Cruises is selecting transformational and courageous Godmothers who are breaking barriers and championing change in their respective fields. Biles will join Nobel Peace Prize Laureate Malala Yousafzai and Reshma Saujani, founder of Girls Who Code, who are godmothers of Beyond’s sister ships Celebrity Edge and Celebrity Apex respectively.
Lisa Lutoff-Perlo, the CEO of Celebrity Cruises, expressed her excitement at having Biles as the Godmother for their newest ship. She said, “Simone is truly the G.O.A.T inside and outside of the gym, and I’m humbled and thrilled to welcome her as godmother of our newest ship Celebrity Beyond.”
Biles expressed her excitement at being the Godmother for Celebrity Beyond and said, “I have a lot of great memories of cruising with my parents while growing up, so I am beyond excited to serve as godmother of Celebrity Beyond.”
Celebrity Beyond showcases the design talents of Kelly Hoppen, Nate Berkus, and Jouin Manku, the innovation of British architect Tom Wright, and the culinary gifts of Michelin-starred chef Daniel Boulud. The ship also features experiences from Gwyneth Paltrow, the CEO and founder of goop. The ship offers an elegant and approachable journey filled with forward-thinking design, culinary excellence, unparalleled well-being, and incomparable service.
Celebrity Beyond began its inaugural season on April 27, 2022, with a 10-night sailing from Southampton, England, to Barcelona, Spain. The ship will spend the summer sailing nine to ten-night itineraries in the Mediterranean before making its way to Fort Lauderdale for the official naming ceremony and a winter season of five to nine-night Caribbean sailings.
