Royal Caribbean’s private island in the Bahamas, CocoCay, is set to receive a major overhaul thanks to a multibillion-dollar investment the cruise line is making in their private islands around the world.
CocoCay is part of Royal Caribbean’s new “Perfect Day Island Collection,” which also includes locations in Asia, Austrailia, and the Caribbean, and is the first to be transformed into the “Ultimate Family Destination.”
Guests on cruises that call on CocoCay will begin to see some of the changes beginning in September when a new pier that can accommodate two ships will open. The bulk of the enhancements will be complete in the spring of 2019 with the entire project completed next November.
Perfect Day at Coco Cay will offer several new experiences that will appeal to cruisers of all ages including the tallest and most thrilling waterslide in North America, the Caribbean’s largest wave pool, a helium balloon ride that takes passengers 450 feet in the air, the largest freshwater pool in the Caribbean, and more.
Highlights of what visitors can expect when visiting Perfect Day at Coco Cay include:
Captain Jack’s – a waterfront hangout that serves up drinks and food, including the house specialty – chicken wings and crispy steak fries.
Skipper’s Grill – a lunch spot offering burgers, sandwiches, tacos, and salads.
Thrill Waterpark – the islands waterpark that includes:
- Daredevil’s Tower – seven water slides, including the twin Dueling Demons drop slides and the duo Manta Raycers; the high-speed, fully vertical Screeching Serpent; the coiling Green Mamba; and the 135-foot Daredevil’s Peak waterslide – the tallest in North America.
- Family Tower – six multi-rider slides including The Twister, a winding tube slide for two; The Slingshot, a zero-gravity slid for four; and the four-lane Splash Speedway racing slides.
- Wave Pool – the largest in the Caribbean.
- 1,600-foot Zip Line that soars over the harbor and ends with a splash water landing.
- Adventure Pool – designed for smaller cruisers, the pool will feature an obstacle course, rock-climbing wall, and swing ropes.
Oasis Lagoon – home to the Caribbean’s largest freshwater pool with three distinct coves, a kid-friendly beach entry, swim-up bar, and private cabanas available for rent.
Up, Up and Away – a colorful helium balloon that takes guests 450-feet above Perfect Day at CocoCay.
Chill Island – the ultimate beach escape with crystal-clear water and white powder-like sand! Sign up for a wave runner excursion, boat tour, snorkeling or just relax on the beach. Chill Island is also home to the Chill Grill, the largest dining venue on the island. Private cabanas are also available.
South Beach – volleyball, basketball, soccer, paddle boarding, glass-bottom kayaking and more. Catch a bite to eat at the Snack Shack or wade out to the floating bar for a drink.
Coco Beach Club (opening November 2019) – an exclusive spot complete with the first overwater cabanas in the Bahamas that include an overwater hammock (reminds me of the time I spend reviewing indoor hammocks on the interweb), waterslide, and private attendant. The Coco Beach Club also features a freshwater infinity pool and bar as well as an exclusive dining venue that serves up Mediterranean fare with ocean views.
Royal Caribbean ships departing from New York, Maryland and Florida will call on Perfect Day Coco Cay.
Transformation of the Perfect Day islands in Asia, Australia, and the Caribbean will be announced at a later date.
