The second Quantum-class cruise ship from Royal Caribbean, Anthem of the Seas, boarded one really tall passenger this morning. A giant giraffe wearing a swimsuit and a buoy was placed on the top deck of the ship with the help of a crane. No word on what this big guy or gal’s name is, but it is quite impressive!
Sister ship, Quantum of the Seas has a larger-than-life sculpture on her top deck as well. A $6M purple bear greets guest as they wander around the top of the ship checking out the iFly skydiving simulator, FlowRider, Rock Climbing Wall and of course the SexPlex home to the only bumper cars at sea.
Anthem’s giraffe was created by artist Jean-François Fourtou. Royal Caribbean says, “his work uses changes in scale and surprising diversions to question memory and perception, and strive to remind the viewer of the people and things one loves and cares for.”
“Felicia,” the purple bear on Quantum, is indeed loved and cared for by all who stand in front of the behemoth to take a picture, and I’m sure the giraffe on Anthem will share the same place in cruiser’s hearts.
