Disney Treasure Western Caribbean Cruise Review – Day 1: December 27, 2025

Pirates sailed the Caribbean seas looting and pillaging, and ever since, treasure hunters have searched for where X marks the spot. We found our bounty today in Port Canaveral while boarding the Disney Treasure, where we’re about to embark on a seven-day Western Caribbean cruise to celebrate the New Year.

With this being our first time sailing on the Disney Treasure, just as she celebrates her first birthday, this is sure to be a week full of exploring the ship and seeing how she measures up to the rest of the fleet. Disney went deep into the IP (intellectual property) on this ship, with each hallway, stairwell, lounge, and restaurant featuring a rich theme. Will it be too much? We’ll find out over the next seven days.

The Treasure was the second Wish Class ship, along with the Disney Wish, to join the fleet in December 2024. In 2025, the Disney Destiny became the third Wish Class ship, bringing Disney Cruise Line to a total of seven vessels. The fleet continues to grow, with the Disney Adventure setting sail in March of 2026 and no less than four more ships on order through 2031. Let’s take a look at the specifics before we start to dive in.

The Treasure continues the tradition of being built by the Meyer Werft company in Germany, showcasing Voyager Minnie Mouse on the bow and Peter Pan jousting Captain Hook on the stern.

We took the familiar drive to Port Canaveral and pulled up with plenty of time for our noon boarding time, getting an up-close look at this gorgeous ship as we made our way to the luggage drop.

Our itinerary this week takes us on a Western Caribbean path that includes stops in Cozumel, Mexico; Falmouth, Jamaica; and George Town, Grand Cayman.

We’ve done this particular itinerary a few times in the past and, admittedly, it’s not our favorite ports. Taking a cruise over New Year’s Eve has become a bit of a tradition the past few years, so while we were considering the options available, this became the top choice based on the length of the cruise and the ship itself. Other options would have been reduced to four or five-day sailings in the Bahamas and only offered Nassau along with Disney-exclusive stops at either Castaway Cay or Lookout Cay.

This will be at least our fourth time visiting Cozumel, and while there are some nice excursions offered, we have done the ones that appeal to us and didn’t feel like a repeat. Instead, we’ll use that day much like we do Nassau: stay on the ship and explore and relax.

For Jamaica, we had originally planned on doing an Adventure Falls and River Tubing excursion but decided to cancel that, more on that later.

Grand Cayman is a different story, though. This will be our third stop in George Town, and we have plenty more to see and do here. There, we will be exploring the Cayman Crystal Caves. This is one I’ve been looking forward to for a while now.

Our First Impressions of Disney Treasure

Upon entering the Grand Hall, the first thing that comes to mind is, wow! Themed after Aladdin, the tones are bright and vibrant. As you walk further in, everything still shines like a new penny even after a year at sea. You’d think she just came out of dry dock. Since the sailing that disembarked this morning was the final Very Merrytime Cruise for the Treasure, all the holiday decorations are still up, including the Christmas tree with all the sparkling lights dazzling the hall.

The ornate chandelier overhead adds further elegance, while Genie waved down to guests as they entered.

An incredible way to be welcomed aboard.

They truly went all out in every detail, as one would expect from Disney. From the carpets to the light fixtures, every element is carefully thought out and immerses you into the realm of make-believe. Tomorrow we’ll be taking a guided tour that further showcases these details, so I’ll be sure to share those tidbits as the week goes on.

We made our way up to Marceline Market, the buffet-style quick service, for lunch, then did a little exploration before heading to the always exciting muster drill. I spoke my piece on the muster drill in last week’s review, so I’ll leave that as: do better, Disney.

The main area we looked into is the Rainforest Spa and sundeck. Prior to embarking, we purchased a weeklong pass for the spa, primarily to take advantage of the outdoor sundeck. We received a tour of the spa and got an explanation of all its offerings and benefits that we could take part in during our cruise. It’s nice, if that’s your thing, but we really weren’t planning on doing any massages or skin care services, just having access to the sundeck and maybe the heated stone loungers or sauna. As we were walked through, it bordered on pushy, as the attendant clearly couldn’t read the room and continued to emphasize the upcharge services within the spa.

The space itself was nice, and we’ll see how it goes to determine if this was a worthy investment at $339 per person for the week.

Disney Treasure Sail Away Party

Every ship has its version of a sail-away celebration, and Disney is no different, with the expected Disney flair of music, dancing, and, of course, the appearance of your favorite characters and princesses for a proper send-off.

We’ve seen these on now five different Disney ships, and I think this one is my favorite. It starts off with a few members of the entertainment team leading a few quick, popular dance numbers, then integrates the entrance of the Fab Five, well, six when you add Daisy. Finally, a parade of princes and princesses joins the party onstage as they count down to the culminating ship’s horn playing “When You Wish Upon a Star” as we push back from the pier.

Dinner in 1923 on Disney Treasure

A new ship, to us at least, also means new restaurants and, most importantly, new menus! With the Wish Class ships came new themed restaurants: 1923, World of Marvel, and a dinner theater–style venue that changes with each ship. For the Disney Treasure, that means Plaza de Coco: Día de los Muertos. As I mentioned in last week’s sailing on the Fantasy, those menus have become old and are in serious need of a revamp. We’re really looking forward to trying some new dishes this week.

Tonight we had our first dinner in 1923. The theme here is a classic look with rich wood paneling and feels like an elegant fine dining experience. This venue is located right off the Grand Hall on deck three and is split into two separate dining rooms, the Walt Disney dining room and the Roy E. Disney dining room. Our assigned side was in Walt.

Once we were led to our table, with a wonderful porthole view, we met our dining team for the week, Askin from Turkiye (yes, that’s how it’s spelled on his name tag) and Jiten.

I’ve talked previously about requesting specific servers, and we were disappointed upon learning that our preferred server, Ida, was not onboard as he was scheduled to return from his break between contracts last week. Having the opportunity to extend his vacation through the holidays to spend time at home with his family, I can’t blame him for taking advantage of that.

The service for this night wasn’t the best we’ve had, as the noise level in the room was fairly high and we had to resort to basically pointing at the menu to convey our selections. We’ve noticed that embarkation night is always loud and hectic in the dining rooms, and that definitely put a dent in the ambiance of this locale. It must be all the excitement in the air, especially for first-time cruisers who are learning on the fly. We’ll reserve judgment, as they were trying their best and we had a few large tables around us that seemed to require some extra attention.

What was lacking was easily made up for by the meal. For the appetizer, I selected the four-cheese tortelloni, because how can you go wrong there? Since I was surprised by how much I enjoyed the duck confit last week, I ordered another version of that in lieu of soup or salad. This was served in a flaky pastry crust with a few slivers of dates and apricot to add a little sweetness. On its own, it could have used a little more seasoning, but overall it was very good. As my daughter has never met a charcuterie board she doesn’t like, she got the Burrata Mozzarella and Prosciutto. Luckily, she didn’t want all of the fresh mozzarella, so of course I couldn’t let that go to waste.

Many of the entrées sounded appealing, but I have a hard time passing on filet mignon, and I was not disappointed in that selection. Wonderfully tender and accompanied by a few steamed green beans wrapped in bacon. We all know bacon makes everything better! I asked for the peppercorn sauce to be on the side, as I didn’t want it to overpower the meat, and that ended up making a perfect gravy for the mashed potatoes.

For evening entertainment, there was a variety act in the Walt Disney Theater, but that overlapped with the football game, so I opted to check out the Periscope Lounge to watch. Unfortunately, there were a combination of college and pro games playing, and they opted to play the audio for the college game. That made it difficult to watch my game of preference. The Packers’ defense made it even more difficult to watch! At the conclusion of the first quarter, I decided to take a quick walk around a few of the shops, then head to the stateroom to watch the rest of the game.

Tomorrow is a sea day as we head toward Cozumel. I’m sure there will be plenty of ship exploration and some downtime in a lounger. Thanks for checking in.
