Royal Caribbean just fired up the sparks in Saint-Nazaire, France, where the first piece of steel was officially cut for the line’s seventh Oasis-Class ship — the next in a lineup that’s been redefining cruising beginning with Oasis of the Seas’s in December 2009. This newest addition doesn’t have a name yet, but debuts in 2028.

The ceremony took place at the Chantiers de l’Atlantique shipyard, the same yard that built other Royal Caribbean vessels, and marked the official start of construction for what will eventually become another record-breaker at sea.

For those keeping track, this “lucky number seven” follows in the wake of Oasis of the Seas, Allure, Harmony, Symphony, Wonder, and the brand-new Utopia of the Seas, which just started sailing short getaways from Port Canaveral not too long ago. Each ship in this class has pushed boundaries — introducing neighborhoods, open-air promenades, massive aqua theaters, and an endless lineup of ways to eat, drink, relax, and play.

While details are still tightly under wraps, we can expect Royal Caribbean to continue that evolution — bigger thrills, fresh dining concepts, and next-level entertainment. If history is any indicator, this new build will combine old favorites with something completely unexpected that will once again raise the bar.

More information, including the ship’s name and first itineraries, will come closer to launch. But for now, it’s official — the next Oasis-Class ship is on the way, and the countdown to 2028 has begun.
