Princess Cruises is thrilled to announce that they will be making their first-ever stop at the historic city of Yorktown, Virginia as part of a series of custom-curated itineraries set to take place in summer 2024. These itineraries will highlight opportunities for guests to experience the rich history and cultural heritage of Yorktown, Colonial Williamsburg, and Jamestown.
Princess Cruises will make five day-long calls, three via the Island Princess and two via the Emerald Princess. This stop is expected to have a significant economic impact on the region and will bring in an influx of visitors to the area, benefiting local retail shops, restaurants, and regional attractions, and generating revenue for the Commonwealth and local governments.
John Padgett, President of Princess Cruises, stated that the new itineraries are even more significant as interest builds ahead of events and festivities across Virginia to commemorate the 250th anniversaries of the Revolutionary War and the Declaration of Independence. He added that Princess Cruises is well-known for offering unique itineraries that appeal to their guests who have an interest in historical and cultural experiences, and Yorktown fits in perfectly with that philosophy.
The historic city of Yorktown offers 300 years of rich history, from revolutionary battlefields to 18th Century homes. Visitors will be able to stroll along picturesque streets lined with art galleries, antique and specialty shops, and enjoy entertainment such as fife and drum performances. The city also offers a scenic riverwalk with charming restaurants and shops that offer a view of the York River.
Visitors who opt to visit Colonial Williamsburg will be transported back in time as they discover why this was the capital of Virginia and the largest, most prosperous American colony. Guests will follow in the footsteps of men and women from all walks of life as they re-trace history and explore original buildings, homes, and shops reconstructed on 301 acres – most on their original foundations.
Those who visit Jamestown, located just a short 30-minute motorcoach ride from the port, will be captivated by the history behind the first permanent English settlement in North America and the role that three cultures – European, North American, and African – played in laying the foundation for a uniquely American form of democratic government, language, free enterprise, and society.
Stay tuned for more information, including specific sailing dates, itineraries, and shore excursions, which will be announced in the coming weeks.
