Texas is known for being larger than life, and Royal Caribbean International is now adding to that reputation with the opening of its new $125 million cruise terminal in Galveston. The state-of-the-art facility welcomed the Lone Star State’s largest cruise ship, Allure of the Seas, in a ribbon cutting ceremony attended by government officials, executives from Royal Caribbean, and partners. The event marked the beginning of a new era for Royal Caribbean and the Port of Galveston, with the introduction of the revolutionary Oasis Class and an estimated 630,000 vacationers each year.
Michael Bayley, President and CEO of Royal Caribbean International, said, “We are thrilled to take family vacations to a whole new level in Texas. Our new, 161,334-square-foot terminal opens up a world of vacation possibilities for families in the Southwest.” The facility, designed with sustainability in mind, will be the world’s first LEED Zero Energy facility, generating 100% of its energy through on-site solar panels. This investment by Royal Caribbean is expected to bring 800 new jobs, $1.4 billion in local business services revenue, $5.6 million in state and local taxes, and business development opportunities to the region.
As vacationers enter the terminal, they are greeted by a dynamic art sculpture named the Galveston Beach Trio by Texas-based artists Brad Oldham and Christy Coltrin. The stainless steel and lost-wax bronze sculpture is inspired by Galveston’s rich musical heritage and serves as the perfect backdrop for the start of a memorable getaway. Allure of the Seas will set sail from its new homeport on November 13th, offering a lineup of thrills, ways to relax, restaurants, nightlife, and entertainment across seven signature neighborhoods.
The ship has over 30 restaurants, bars, and lounges, including Giovanni’s Table serving family-style Italian classics, Chops Grille with American steakhouse favorites, and Izumi with fresh sushi and sizzling hibachi. Allure is also introducing new concepts and dishes, including Wipeout Cafe featuring El Loco Fresh, serving up popular Mexican delights like made-to-order quesadillas, tacos, and nachos.
With its impressive lineup of adventure and dining options, Allure of the Seas is sure to provide the perfect vacation for families, couples, and individuals alike. From the nine-story zip line and FlowRider surf simulators to rock climbing, ice skating, and original productions, there is something for everyone on board. With Royal Caribbean’s new cruise terminal in Galveston, Texas, the biggest, boldest adventure has finally arrived.
