Water Shuttle Wait Time

Water shuttle service started around 9:30am. I went to get a ticket at 10:15am and was given group 24. That group was called at 10:25am. Very efficient!

Welcome to Princess Cays!

Good morning from Regal Princess, where we’ve arrived at Princess Cays in The Bahamas for our first port day!

Water shuttle service is scheduled to begin around 10 a.m., and with the last shuttle back to the ship at 3 p.m., this is going to be a fairly short day ashore. Princess Cays is a tender port, so Regal Princess is anchored offshore and we’ll be taking one of the ship’s water shuttles over to the marina. The ride itself takes about 20 minutes.

Despite the name and the way it’s sometimes described, Princess Cays isn’t actually a private island. It’s Princess Cruises’ private resort area on the southern end of Eleuthera, a long, narrow Bahamian island about 50 miles east of Nassau. Princess Cays occupies more than 40 acres and has over a half-mile of beachfront. 

The big attraction here is simply the beach.  There’s also a complimentary beach barbecue, bars, shops, a local craft market, private bungalows and an observation tower if you want to do a little exploring rather than spending the entire visit planted in a beach chair.

And Princess isn’t the only cruise line with a piece of Eleuthera. Just “right down the street” on the southern end of the same island is Disney Lookout Cay at Lighthouse Point. Disney’s destination isn’t a separate private island either. It’s another developed section of Eleuthera, although Disney ships have the advantage of docking at a pier while Princess passengers have to use water shuttles.

And today we have a neighbor down there, Disney Fantasy, which is docked at Lookout Cay while we’re anchored offshore at Princess Cays.
