Royal Caribbean is definitely keeping the new ship momentum going. Just when you thought the Icon Class lineup couldn’t get any bigger, the cruise line has officially started construction on its fourth Icon ship — and revealed that there’s plenty more where that came from.
Earlier this month, at the Meyer Turku shipyard in Finland, Royal Caribbean celebrated the keel-laying ceremony for its next Icon-class ship. The event marked the start of physical construction as the first steel block was lowered into the dry dock. In true maritime tradition, freshly minted coins were placed under the block to bring good luck to the ship and all who will sail on her.
The yet-to-be-named fourth Icon Class ship is on track for a 2027 debut, joining her sisters Icon of the Seas (sailing since January 2024), Star of the Seas (sailing since August 2025), and Legend of the Seas (set for summer 2026). Like her sisters, she’ll have Royal Caribbean’s signature thrill rides, family fun, chill-out zones, and a staggering variety of dining and drinking venues. Details about what new surprises will be onboard are still under wraps.
More Icons on the Way
Royal Caribbean also announced a long-term agreement with Meyer Turku, locking in shipbuilding rights at the Finnish yard for the next decade.
What does that mean? More Icons.
- Icon 5 is now confirmed, with delivery slated for 2028 (pending financing).
- Icon 6 was already on the books as an option.
- And now, Icon 7 has been added to the list of potential builds.
That’s up to three more Icon Class ships beyond the two already in progress. But the news doesn’t stop there: the agreement also sets the stage for a brand-new class of ship that will follow Icon sometime before 2036. Will it be the smaller class Royal has been teasing, or will it be something even larger than Icon?
Time will tell.
