We are just one year away from the launch of Holland America Line’s newest cruise ship, ms Nieuw Statendam. Scheduled to be delivered in December 2018, this Pinnacle-class ship is sister to the newest member of the HAL fleet, ms Koningsdam.
Nieuw Statendam is scheduled to be delivered from the Fincantieri shipyard in Italy on December 1, 2018. Four days later she will embark on a 14-day transatlantic cruise to her new home port of Fort Lauderdale, FL where she will sail a Caribbean itinerary during the busy winter season.
As a sister-ship to the Koningsdam, much of the ship’s design will be the same, including passenger capacity. Both ships carry 2,666 passengers, a fairly small number considering other lines are launching ships that carry twice that number.
Onboard, guests will marvel at the ship’s three-story atrium that features subtly changing high-definition projections on the ceiling. Bright, fluffy clouds during the day and the constellation of the night sky during the evening.
Staterooms will feature bedside USB ports, frameless shower doors, and customized wood cabinets. Family Ocean-view Staterooms designed for up to five people as well as single staterooms for solo cruisers are also part of the ship’s design.
Onboard dining include the line’s signature restaurants Pinnacle Grill (steakhouse), Canaletto (Italian), Tamarind (Pan-Asian), Lido Market (buffet), Dive-In (burgers poolside), New York Pizza & Deli, Grand Dutch Café, G-Gelato and Rudi’s Del de Mer – Rudi Sodamin’s signature restaurant, in addition to the ships main dining room.
In addition to the ship’s spa, two swimming pools, fitness center and shopping arcade, Nieuw Statendam will also feature America’s Test Kitchen for cooking demonstrations, Digital Workshop where vacationers can learn about the newest Microsoft products and get hands-on lessons, Club HAL and The Loft for kids and teens and BBC Earth Experiences.
Entertainment venues include a casino, the wildly popular B. B. King’s Blues Club, the Lincoln Center Stage and Billboard Onboard first introduced on Koningsdam as well as movies poolside and multiple bars and nightclubs.
If the name Statendam sounds familiar, it is. This is the sixth ship in the history of Holland America Line to have the name, the first set sail in 1898. Bookings are now available for the ship’s inaugural season.
