On April 8, 2024, passengers aboard the Emerald Princess will have the unique opportunity to witness a total solar eclipse at sea, lasting up to 4 minutes and 28 seconds. This celestial event is one of only three remaining worldwide this decade and the last one visible from North America until 2044.
After selling out their 10-day Mexican Riviera cruise with Total Solar Eclipse on Discovery Princess, Princess Cruises has now adapted the itinerary of their 15-day ocean-to-ocean Panama Canal cruise aboard Emerald Princess. Departing from Los Angeles on April 5, 2024, the voyage will sail through the Mexican Riviera, the Panama Canal, and the western Caribbean before docking at Ft. Lauderdale. The 3,080-passenger Emerald Princess will be perfectly positioned to catch the total solar eclipse on April 8, between Cabo San Lucas and Huatulco, Mexico. The itinerary, which also includes stops in San Juan del Sur Costa Rica, Cartagena, Grand Cayman, and Ft. Lauderdale, is now available for booking with starting rates of $1,699 per person.
During this exclusive event, guests will gather on the top decks, where they will be provided with special glasses to safely view the eclipse. To enhance the experience, astronomy and space exploration enthusiast Fred Cink will guide the viewing, while guests enjoy themed drinks and bites in celebration of the rare occurrence.
John Padgett, president of Princess Cruises, said, “This rare occurrence in the cosmos is sure to wow millions, but only the smallest fraction will ever experience this phenomenon via the ocean aboard an amazing cruise ship.” He continued, “Princess thrives on ensuring our guests have authentic experiences that sometimes become once-in-a-lifetime moments.”
