Disney is bringing the magic of a Disney Cruise Line vacation to even more families around the world with their latest announcement. The company has acquired a partially completed ship, previously known as the Global Dream, and will work with Meyer Werft shipbuilding company to finish construction. The ship is set to sail in 2025 and will be based outside the United States.
With the expertise of Walt Disney Imagineers, the ship will be reimagined and renamed with new features that are sure to excite Disney fans. It will have the iconic, Mickey Mouse-inspired colors of the fleet and signature red funnels.
The 208,000-gross-ton ship will be fueled by green methanol, making it one of the lowest emission-fueled ships in the industry. It will have a passenger capacity of around 6,000 and approximately 2,300 crew members.
The ship will be constructed at the former MV Werften shipyard in Wismar, Germany, under the management of Meyer Werft. The ship’s previous owner filed for bankruptcy before completing the vessel, making it possible for Disney Cruise Line to acquire it at a favorable price. The project will also provide employment opportunities for hundreds of former MV Werften employees and numerous maritime industry suppliers in the region.
Disney Cruise Line offers vacations to various destinations around the world, including the Bahamas, the Caribbean, Europe, Alaska, Mexico, Canada, Hawaii, and the South Pacific. The company recently announced its first-ever vacations for guests in Australia and New Zealand, which will begin in late 2023.
Chairman of Disney Parks, Experiences, and Products, Josh D’Amaro, expressed his excitement for the new ship, stating, “Our cruise ships give us the unique opportunity to bring Disney magic to fans no matter where they are, and the addition of this ship will make a Disney Cruise Line vacation accessible to more families than ever before.”
While more details about the maiden voyage, itineraries, and onboard experiences have yet to be announced, it’s safe to say that this new addition to the Disney Cruise Line fleet will be nothing short of magical. Stay tuned for updates and get ready to set sail with Disney in 2025!
