Back in October 2024, Royal Caribbean dropped some major news: they’re acquiring the Puerto Costa Maya cruise port and over 200 acres of surrounding land for $292 million. Their big plan? Transform this popular Western Caribbean stop into Perfect Day Mexico, an exclusive destination set to open in fall 2027. This isn’t just a facelift—it’s a complete reimagining of the port, aiming to rival their wildly successful Perfect Day at CocoCay with a bold mix of thrills, relaxation, and Mexican-inspired vibes.
The acquisition includes the port’s existing infrastructure, like the four-berth Costa Maya pier, and adjacent land, giving Royal Caribbean the space to create their own slice of paradise. They’re scrapping parts of the old setup, like the nearby Lost Mayan Kingdom waterpark, to build a brand-new waterpark, massive pools, beaches, and dining spots all designed to make your day ashore unforgettable.
This isn’t just another beach—it’s a massive destination, packed with record-breaking thrills, chills, and a whole lot of fun. While details on what cruisers can expect to see and experience at Perfect Day Mexico has been kept under wraps since their initial announcement last October, Royal Caribbean just peeled back the curtain to give us all a sneak peek, and it looks… absolutely incredible!

Perfect Day Mexico will feature seven unique neighborhoods, each with its own vibe, catering to everyone from adrenaline junkies to those just wanting to kick back with a margarita. First up, Loco Waterpark is where thrill-seekers will lose their minds. We’re talking over 30 waterslides across five towers, including the tallest slide tower in North and South America, called Jaguar’s Peak. It’s got dueling slides, a coaster waterslide that’s the longest in the world, and a family raft slide for up to six people at once. Oh, and since it’s Mexico, what would a waterpark be without the world’s first sombrero-shaped slide—because why not? There’s also a wave pool, adventure pools, and kid-friendly slides for the little ones.

If you’re all about going with the flow, Splash Cove is your spot. It’s home to the world’s longest lazy river, and trust me, this isn’t your average float. It takes an hour to complete, with float-up bars, cupholders in every tube, and an optional “crazy” section with waves, rapids, and spins for those who want a wilder ride. At the heart of it all is a massive 100,000-square-foot pool—one of over 10 pools that together span the size of four football fields. Families will love the giant Splashaway Bay for kids, complete with mini slides and nearby cabanas for a cozy home base.
For the grown-ups, El Hideaway is an adults-only oasis. Think zero-entry pool, swim-up bar, in-pool DJ, and live music to keep the party going. Want to go big? Book the Ultimate Party Cabana for up to 20 people, complete with its own pool and bar.

Looking for a touch of luxury? Costa Beach Club delivers with white sand beaches, a heated infinity pool, premium dining, and private cabanas with personal attendants. It’s the perfect spot to feel pampered while still soaking in those Caribbean views. Meanwhile, Chill Beach North and South stretches nearly 2 miles along the coast, offering free loungers, umbrellas, and towels for anyone who just wants to relax by the water.

Don’t worry about going hungry—there are 12 dining options from sit-down restaurants to quick bites, with most food included. With 24 bars, including six swim-up spots, you’ll never be far from a refreshing drink.
Starting in fall 2027, you can visit Perfect Day Mexico on Western Caribbean cruises from Galveston, New Orleans, and all Florida homeports, with itineraries opening for booking this fall.
While Costa Maya will still welcome other cruise lines—Carnival, Norwegian, MSC, and others can keep docking there—Perfect Day Mexico itself is exclusive to Royal Caribbean guests. And, based on how Royal Caribbean operates their other private destinations like CocoCay, we can safely assume their sister brand, Celebrity Cruises, will also get access. Passengers from other lines will have to stick to the revamped port facilities or hop on a shuttle to nearby Mahahual for beaches and excursions, passing by the shiny new Perfect Day Mexico they can’t enter. It’s a savvy move by Royal Caribbean, not just to control the experience but to flaunt their destination’s allure to everyone else docking at the port.
Royal Caribbean’s betting big on the Western Caribbean’s popularity, especially for shorter cruises from Galveston, Tampa, and Florida, where Costa Maya’s prime location makes it a perfect fit for 3- to 5-night getaways.
