When planning a family cruise vacation, it’s important to take a look at what activities are being offered for the younger members of your family to ensure that everyone is going to have a fantastic time on the voyage!

For example, a family with teens may not find that Regent Seven Seas Cruises or Cunard Line may be the best fit due to their limited activities and facilities to keep them busy and entertained.  But, they may find that Disney Cruise Line, Carnival or Royal Caribbean may be a better choice.

Royal Caribbean offers a unique program for young cruisers from 6 months to 17 years!  Their Royal Babies and Tots program is a drop-off nursery for those aged 6 to 36 months with daytime and evening options to give parents time to enjoy some togetherness.  Adventure Ocean offers programs for kids aged 3 to 11, while the Teen Program has activities for those aged 12 – 17.

Adventure Ocean groups kids into three age groups: Aquanauts (3-5 years),  Explorers (6-8 years) and Voyagers (9-11 years), and different rooms are used for the different age groupings.

All Royal Caribbean Adventure Ocean programming is designed to be both entertaining and educational.  All children’s activities are supervised by male or female youth staff that must have a four-year University degree or international equivalent in Education, Recreation or a related field. All staff also has at least three to five years qualified experience in working with children ages six months to 17 years.

Examples of Adventure Ocean educational based activities include:

  • Adventure Science features a blend of hands-on science experiments and entertainment. Experiments include Staggering Through the Stars, Germ Jungle, Wacky Water Workshop, Jurassic Junior, Environmentation Station and Volcanoes.
  • Adventure Art offers children the opportunity to exercise their creativity with crafts such as cultural masks and pottery, while learning about the art, history and culture of the regions they visit on vacation.
  • Adventure Theater participants get a first taste of the actor’s craft, in which entire worlds are created with just their bodies, voices and imaginations. Using structured theater games, vocal and physical exercises, and creativity-freeing activities, instructors guide groups through an exploration of the theater arts.
  • Sail Into Story Time sparks imaginations and entertains young vacationers with a story hour followed by creative, hands-on activities and projects.
