Just a few weeks after Norwegian Cruise Line surprised passengers by announcing that beverage packages would no longer work on Great Stirrup Cay, the cruise line now appears to be reversing course, at least for now.
Guests sailing on upcoming Norwegian itineraries are receiving letters from the cruise line stating that drinks on the private island will once again be included for those who purchased beverage packages.
The update comes after backlash from cruisers who were not happy about losing one of the perks of visiting the cruise line’s private destination.
Drinks Included Again… For Now
In a letter sent to guests by Norwegian Cruise Line, the company confirmed that passengers with beverage packages will now be able to enjoy drinks on Great Stirrup Cay again.
The letter states that guests who purchased beverage packages including More at Sea, Free at Sea, or Free at Sea Plus will be able to use those packages on the island.
That means passengers will once again be able to grab their favorite cocktails, beer, or other drinks without paying extra while enjoying the beach.
However, the letter also includes one important detail. The benefit is only confirmed through March.
In other words, the decision could still change again in the future.

Why the Change?
While Norwegian did not directly say it in the letter, the timing suggests the company heard the criticism loud and clear.
When the cruise line first announced that beverage packages would not work on Great Stirrup Cay, many cruisers were quick to point out that Royal Caribbean and MSC Cruises include drink package use on their private islands.
So, if you purchased a beverage package, you will be able to use it both onboard the ship and on the island.
But the key phrase in the letter is “through March.”
That leaves the door open for Norwegian to revisit the policy later, especially as the cruise line continues developing major upgrades planned for Great Stirrup Cay.
