Disney Cruise Line has long been recognized for bringing magic to the seas. The fleet of ships, while maintaining the iconic look and feel of the early 20th-century ocean liners, presents an extraordinary combination of modern features, breathtaking design, and unique character-themed experiences. As the cruise line continues to grow, it is essential to understand each ship’s unique offerings, from the classics to the brand-new additions. Today, we will take a tour of Disney’s current and future fleet, uncovering the uniqueness of each vessel.

Disney Magic

Disney Magic, the first of the fleet, set sail in 1998. Constructed by the famed Italian shipbuilder, Fincantieri, it was a stepping stone for Disney to enter the cruise market. The ship carries 2,700 passengers, served by a crew of 950. Disney Magic has 11 expansive decks that are meticulously designed with an Art Deco style, boasting modern amenities and Disney’s signature storytelling.

The unique feature of Disney Magic is the “AquaDunk” – a three-story body slide that takes riders on a thrilling, near-vertical drop. Other offerings include the Tangled-themed restaurant, Marvel’s Avengers Academy for the kids, and the adult-exclusive After Hours area.

Disney Wonder

Launched in 1999, just a year after the Disney Magic, the Disney Wonder was also constructed by Fincantieri. The ship has the capacity to accommodate 2,700 passengers and 950 crew members, across its 11 decks. The ship’s design reflects the Art Nouveau aesthetic, providing a feeling of elegance and sophistication.

The most exciting feature on Disney Wonder is the Twist ‘n’ Spout water slide, giving families fun-filled memories.

Disney Dream

The Disney Dream, launched in 2011, is larger than its predecessors, with a capacity of 4,000 passengers and 1,458 crew members. The ship was built by Meyer Werft, a renowned shipbuilder from Germany, boasting 14 decks of entertainment, dining, and accommodation.

This cruise ship also features interactive art that literally comes alive when you walk by, and virtual portholes in inside staterooms that offer real-time views of the sea. The Disney Dream takes its dining to the next level with the Remy restaurant, an ultra-premium dining experience inspired by the film “Ratatouille”.

Disney Fantasy

The sister ship to Disney Dream, Disney Fantasy, was launched in 2012. It is similar in size to Disney Dream, accommodating up to 4,000 passengers and 1,458 crew members. The ship’s design features an Art Nouveau style, radiating charm and elegance.

The ship also features the first-ever Disney princess-themed suite and the Star Wars: Hyperspace Lounge for adults. The ship is powered by liquefied natural gas, making it one of Disney’s most environmentally-friendly ships.

Future Additions

Disney Cruise Line has announced plans for three additional ships to be completed by 2025. Although the details are still under wraps, Disney promises that these ships will embody the immersion and innovation that Disney’s stories and characters are known for, paving the way for a new era of family cruising.
