The world’s largest cruise ship, Harmony of the Seas, is now sailing out of Port Everglades in Fort Lauderdale, FL. The massive, 5,500 passenger Oasis-class ship from Royal Caribbean arrived in November 2016 and along with sister ship Allure of the Seas sails year-round, seven-night, Eastern and Western Caribbean cruises.
You may remember that Allure and Oasis of the Seas were home-ported in Port Everglades. With the arrival of Harmony, Oasis sailed a little north to Port Canaveral off Florida’s Space Coast – a first for an Oasis-class cruise ship.
The introduction of Harmony of the Seas brought some “firsts” for Royal Caribbean including waterslides. Yes, believe it or not, Royal Caribbean ships did not feature waterslides until now.
While other lines boasted of top-deck water parks, Royal kept their ships slide-free. But Harmony changed all that… in a BIG way!
First off, there’s not one.. not two… but three water slides which make up what they call the “Perfect Storm”. There’s Cyclone and Typhoon, which are dueling slides, which means you “race” the person in the opposite slide to see who ends up at the bottom first.
The third is Supercell, which is a swirling “champagne bowl” funnel slide.
But perhaps the most thrilling of all is the Ultimate Abyss – the tallest slide at sea! Made of up two side-by-side slides, the Ultimate Abyss sits 150 feet above sea level and takes guests down ten stories at 9 miles per hour.
Pretty impressive!
